Jake and Grandpa Harley are different iterations of the same base person. Grandpa Harley was a polymath. He was an inventor. He was the one to build Jade’s dreambot. With the amount of tech Jade grew up with, it’s quite difficult to deny that Grandpa Harley knew his machines. 

Jake does too. When we think of “robots” and “alpha kids” Dirk is likely the first thought to come to mind, seeing as he built himself two different rapping compatriots. But while Dirk built the brobot, he transported it to Jake in pieces no larger than what would fit in an average microwave. It’s easy to forget that Jake still assembled a robot from pre-made parts. 

Years later, he assembled a robot bunny for his penpal John, and while he had Jade and Dirk’s knowledge arguably at his disposal, it’s unlikely that either of them spared him much time and assistance. After assembling the brobot with help, Jake would have assembled Liv Tyler much more autonomously. 

Jake also loves firearms. While his marksmanship is up for debate, knowing the assembly and care of a gun is similar procedural knowledge to understanding the parts and assembly of a robot. These are the sorts of skills Jake has. He might have the emotional range of a teaspoon and might miss social cues that are doing their damnedest to beat him about the head and torso, but he isn’t stupid. His intelligence is all practical knowledge.

Jake is resourceful. If he was a complete numbskull, he would have been dead a week after grandma Jade. 

Much as he seems dumb as a post, I’d like to give Jake a little credit.

Aranea’s a chill girl and you want to enjoy her story, but it’s difficult when Jake is staring at her like that. There’s a twinkle in his vibrant green eyes, one that he only gets when he gazes at something truly magnificent, like the fucking gun you bought him for his birthday that you spent nearly half your paycheck on.

And this is how he repays you.

Your arms are folded across your chest. One of your hands is pressed against your arm, fingers resting against your bicep below your tattoo. Your other hand is tucked safely beneath your other arm where you’re trying to conceal how tightly your fist is balled.

You wonder how big of a deal it would be to everyone in the restaurant if you punched him.

Probably a huge one, you decide. But you’re sure Meenah would appreciate it.

Sixteen months locked behind bars with a bunch of whack bitches is a long time, so you’re not crazy enough to violate your probation.

But who does this fucker think he is?  

And it isn’t just him. Aranea’s just sitting there blabbering on and looking at you like nothing’s wrong with this picture. You know she sees the way he’s staring at her, not that you can blame him for doing that.

You still have trouble not staring at her lips when she speaks.

God, you bet she’s doing this on purpose.

You wonder if Dirk will trip out if you take the cup you have your fingers gripped tightly around and hit Jake in the face with it.

You know the story you’re telling is a good one. It was based on actual events and there are so many delightful twists and turns. And Jake certainly seems to be interested in every word coming out of your mouth.

So why on earth are Meenah and Dirk just sitting there staring so grumpily at you?

Maybe they just want you to shut up? Meenah tells you to stop talking all the time, but Dirk has never seemed to mind how long-winded you can get when you’re really excited about something.

Honestly, you just can’t seem to figure it out.

It really is a really great story!

Golly, Aranea sure is pretty.

You’re not really paying much attention to what she’s saying, but her eyelashes are evenly curled and you bet she took a lot of time to make sure her makeup was perfectly in place before she left her house.

Gosh, what a looker!

And she’s wearing blue. You’ve always thought green was your favorite color, but you’re starting to think that maybe you should start wearing blue. Aranea sure looks good in it. You think maybe you’ll ask her how dashing you’d look in a nice cerulean shirt— if you can ever get a word in, that is.

Boy, she sure smells nice.

She has a piece of hair that flips up at the top of her head similar to yours and you want to comment on that, too, but she’s still talking, but that’s okay because her voice sounds like angels. Well, not that you’ve ever heard an angel before and you hope you don’t anytime soon because that would mean you were dead and you don’t think you’re really ready to die just yet.

You’re still a young fellow with lots of adventuring to do.

Her skin looks really soft.

You wonder how it would feel if you gently grazed her thigh with your hand. Gadzooks! That’s such a horribly indecent thought. You promise yourself that you won’t think about it again. You’re better off leaving that all up to Meenah.

Yowza, you’d sure love to be a fervent fly on the wall when those two ladies go at it!

You bet there’s all types of stuff they do that you and Dirk have never even—

The Lord class is the master class of the Active spectrum, as already been stated. Hope  is an aspect based on Belief , and here we see Caliborn trying to ‘help’ Jake. Regardless of possible ulterior motives, one thing bothers me.

The lines. 

By placing each line and angle in specific areas and proportions, he’s Creating  an image to be Believed as what we are conceiving.

I’ll be honest here. I think the hate for Jake has been overblown. Be it because he forgot Jane’s birthday or because he’s breaking up with Dirk, or that he’s shoving how he feels in Jane’s face. I think it’s all just a massive thing blown majorly out of proportion and people need to stop and think about why he’s acting out. Or the possibilities.

I have a theory, and it’s an interesting one. I’ve seen it float around once or twice, but I feel some people have turned it a blind eye.

But now it’s starting to make more sense.

First of all, Jake is forgetful. When he was first introduced, he was more familiar with his surroundings than he is now. He wasn’t so forgetful.

Let’s list some stuff he’s forgotten, shall we?

• Dirk comments that Jake not forget his gas mask “this time” implying he’s done it before.
• Jane’s birthday.
• How long they’ve been playing the game.
• How long it’s been since he talked to Jane and possibly any of the others.
• Not that this is forgetting, but he seems to have an odder sense of humor and sense of reaction than he did before — laughing at Erisolsprite being a prime example.
• He’s generally unable to comprehend things he maybe would’ve comprehended before. Known fact is that he was able to, in the past, kind of tell when someone felt “that way” about him, which is exactly why he talked to Jane to begin with. He seems to have forgotten that even happened.

Now, we have a possible reason here:

•   He equips the helmet as he’s falling after Lil Seb saved him to keep from having a more severe head injury than he would’ve gotten without the helmet on.
• In [S] Prince of Heart: Rise Up, Brobot is seen strifing with Jake — and I couldn’t get a screenshot of this, but he hits Jake in the head multiple times, once going so far as to lift him upside down by his torso and throw him at the ground head first.
• At another point, Jake ends up having rocks dropped on his head, effectively knocking him out and properly introducing him to Aranea.
• I’m sure he could’ve suffered more head injuries throughout the game now that they’re in it, too.

What I’m saying here is, Jake may have brain damage. There’s so much stuff hinting at it that it’s almost absurd. Even his planet itself is a huge hint— Xenon is used to treat patients with brain damage. Who’s to say he’s not smacked his head so many times that he’s forgetting things and his perspective is being fucked up. I don’t think the gas itself is in the air there either or like Kyrpton it’d be a hazard for him. Because oxygen is still necessary. Xenon might actually be located in the X shaped trench across his planet.

It may just be that Jake gets punted into that trench at some point in the future and comes out better than he was before. And less of a douche.

[Edit] Also, I want to add to this! I think that Dirk may have some inkling that something is up with Jake. Exactly what, he may not be sure, but it’s got him worried and acting clingy. As Jake progressively forgets things and ends up with twisted views on things, he could be convinced that their entire relationship revolved around nothing but clingyness and oppressive behavior based on the worried actions of Dirk trying to make sure Jake is okay.

With this misconception in place, he could be very well be convinced of the things he’s been saying about Dirk and everything else. Or, it could be an honest concern and Dirk could very well have been clingy all the time due to his isolation in the middle of the ocean.

Thank you! I also had a suspicious that Jake hitting his head may have played some part later on. And his behavior is definitely a bit more off than usual, along with the forgetfulness.

i’ve always felt that Jake completely forgetting about Jane’s feelings for him to be really weird. Now i wonder how the Jake haters will feel if this theory really is true.

he thought they’d been in the game for a year, and it was only five months
he thought he’d talked to Jane a few days ago, when really it was a few weeks 

and Dirk mentioned he forgot his gas mask at one point, what if something happened?
